Mayor of Far North District

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Far North District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

I believe we are heading down a path of fiscal incompetence, unsustainable debt, opaque transactions, asset sell-offs and disproportionate representation. FNDC subsidiaries have sold over $20 million in assets to Tupu Tonu since 2023, without public consultation or open tender. Meanwhile, our rates increased 10.95%. I am standing to salvage a future for Northland, to restore fiscal responsibility, provide absolute transparency and return to the principle that council members and staff are public servants.

About me

With 20 years of business experience, I understand what it means to complete major construction projects on time and on budget. I will bring financial responsibility, project management competence, and much needed transparency and accountability. My credentials: 20 years business experience, business degree, project manager of multi-million dollar commercial construction projects, residential construction experience, software engineer, FAA Gold Seal flight instructor, Far North resident for the last decade.

My priorities
  1. Get the council's runaway borrowing under control – projected to triple from 2022 levels by 2027.
  2. Improve council transparency and review closed-door meeting minutes for information that is not LGOIMA exempt.
  3. Review and possibly pause the current PDP to ensure it is compliant with the new RMA replacement.
