Why I'm standing

I want to make an active and positive contribution, and have a long association with Manawatu, having lived here for over 35 years. My view is that councillors perform far better for their communities if they are personally invested, rather than those who see the position as essentially a political one – for example, losing property in the 2004 flood gave me a real understanding of how important flood protection is, both physically and emotionally.

About me

I've always been involved in community activities, and now is the right time for me to contribute to the wider region I so enjoy living in. Most recently I was EO of Target Shooting NZ – an Incorporated Society with a trading turnover of a million dollars plus annually, where I undertook strategic planning, budgeting, financial control, auditing, and legislation review. My style is open, honest, and diplomatic; I know how to get things done.

My priorities
  1. Ensure council spending is sensible and reasonable, focusing on accountability and futureproofing.
  2. Balance environmental needs with those of the community so that both can progress positively.
  3. Contribute to positive and open communication between council and community.
