New Plymouth District Council

The New Plymouth District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 14 councillors and the mayor. This election is for the five councillors elected by all voters in the district. The other councillors will be elected to represent wards (areas in the district). This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the New Plymouth District Council election.

Why I'm standing

I will be an approachable, engaged councillor who listens first, acts thoughtfully, and works hard to represent all voices. Let's shape a strong, smart future for New Plymouth – together.

About me

I bring firsthand business skills and broad life experience to the table. Community matters to me. I have volunteered with groups like Taranaki Mountain Ales and served as branch manager for NZISM (New Zealand Institute of Safety Management). I am currently president of the Friends of the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery / Len Lye Centre.

My priorities
  1. Keep WITT as a thriving educational asset for the region, especially critical with the decline in gas.
  2. Protect cultural icons from bizarre cost claims and those who never visit.
  3. Foster cooperation and respect to achieve common goals within the council environment.
