Climate change and resilience
Climate change poses a huge challenge for communities as more frequent extreme weather events require us to rethink how we live and where. Local authorities are at the forefront of efforts to respond, with responsibilities for environmental planning and regulation, as well as civil defence. Many councils have plans to reduce emissions in their area and are working to help their communities adapt to a warming world.

Local authorities are at the forefront of efforts to respond, with responsibilities for environmental planning and regulation, as well as civil defence. Many councils have plans to reduce emissions in their area and are working to help their communities adapt to a warming world.
Commit to addressing facts and then adjusting council policy for the ratepayer. I fail to see how a cow is worse than a truck.
Find facts that are sustainable and viable for the ratepayer. Note that beaches have not risen in the last 10 years despite predictions.
Commit to civil defence. I have seen it in action long before it became commercialised.
Build resilience and capability in communities and council so critical services can keep running during emergencies and major events.
Complete a review of council facilities to identify which buildings require earthquake strengthening and plan for those that do not.
Use spatial planning that accounts for changing weather patterns and guide growth to the best, most resilient locations for communities.
