Far North District Council

Te Hiku General Ward
The Far North District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of ten councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). two councillors will be elected from the Te Hiku ward. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper.     Improve internal operations by investing in staff training, transparent processes and effective communication to improve staff retention.

    Review council size and roles to ensure efficiency, accountability and responsiveness to community needs.

  • Restructure council staff within operations.

  • Admit that democracy does not exist in the Far North or New Zealand, it is a myth. We have plutocracy instead.

    Build a new system from feedback received from the people, acknowledging it will take time but will be worth it.

    Revalue political values and how best to achieve them, as true democracy requires asking the people, not the politicians.
