The Hawke's Bay Regional Council makes decisions about managing resources in the region, such as air, water, soil and the coastline. It also carries out plant and pest control, helps prepare for natural disasters, and is involved in regional transport. The council is made up of 11 councillors.     Protect aquifers from depletion and contamination through firm policy, monitoring and sustainable land use planning.

    Restore river and stream health through catchment-wide action, improved flows and partnerships with mana whenua and community.

  • Develop a simple consenting process that enables a fast, cost effective mechanism allowing transfer or sharing of allocated volume.

    Ensure all waterways adopt a maintain or improve water quality objective in a reasonable timeframe.

    Support initiatives that improve security of supply for all water users including storage, global consents, transfers, recharge or other methods.
