Mayor of Kaipara

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Kaipara District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

I believe in a Better Kaipara. Our fast-growing place needs trusted, experienced leadership from me who is a former two-term mayor who didn't seek election at the last local govt elections three years ago. Kaipara communities have lost sense of togetherness and common purpose with the council, as well as faith and confidence in council leadership.

About me

Being Kaipara Mayor is a tough job – the two mayors before me failed to see out their terms, the one after me has lasted only one term. I have the skills and networks, know well the ropes of council and can hit the ground running for a Better Kaipara. I'm led a council that listens to the people and the people need that again. I hear you and so will they.

My priorities
  1. Focus on the first three parts of Smith's 7 Steps related to Back to Basics, council expenditure and rates.
  2. Strengthen management of conflicts of interest around the council table and get fingers out of the pie.
  3. Develop a Good Neighbour policy, prepare smarter funding bids and improve bi-coastal balance.
