Mayor of Kaipara

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper. Compare the candidates and their policies to decide who to vote for in the Kaipara District Council mayoral election.

Why I'm standing

With significant change over recent years, council now needs stability to build on the gains already made. It also needs experience and a balanced approach to serving the whole district in an equitable way considering the needs of our towns and the rural sector. I am the current deputy mayor and a four-term councillor – this means I have extensive experience and am able to provide the required leadership stability.

About me

I have been on council for four terms and have been a professional firefighter and station officer for 26 years – so I know what serving the community is all about. This combined with my academic qualifications B.Sc and MBA as well as chair-endorsed RMA commissioner mean that I have the skills and experience to lead the council during a time of extensive government-led legislative reform.

My priorities
  1. Focus on infrastructure, especially roading, council's biggest spend and the source of most ratepayer concern.
  2. Ensure growth pays for growth so future ratepayers are not burdened with the cost of infrastructure.
  3. Ensure rates affordability by making sure every dollar spent is required and benefits ratepayers.
