Mayor of Whanganui

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the district and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Support public transport, walking, cycling and infrastructure such as roads, bridges and footpaths.

  • Advocate for options in conjunction with Air Chathams to establish a Whanganui to Ōtautahi Christchurch airline route.

    Budget for the provision of additional user parking spaces between the Sarjeant Gallery and Davis Library.

    Be a strong advocate for central government investment in core infrastructure, eg the Dublin St Bridge and Wakefield St Bridge.

  • Expand logistics links with the rest of New Zealand and the world.

    Work with Air Chathams for a Christchurch route, headquarters in Whanganui and an interline agreement with Air NZ.
