Why I'm standing
I have served one term. Three years ago I promised to limit rate rises, address public transport challenges and improve the Mount Air Quality challenge. The first one was achieved (but we need to be ever vigilant), the second is only just started as contracts come up for renewal and the third is well under way but more can be done. I want to keep working on those priorities in particular.
About me
I am an economist and also have a degree in history and geography. This means I have learned to look at evidence through a range of different lenses. That helps me come up with innovative approaches to challenges. I am a director of the Foundation of the Blind, AA and Consumer NZ which connects me to multiple parts of the community. I am a Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors.
My priorities
- Limit rate rises ensuring the council maintains the lowest rate rise in the country without dropping the ball.
- Address public transport services by making the bus system fit for purpose.
- Ensure civil defence readiness recognising that natural disasters can happen in the region and preparedness is essential.
