Climate change and resilience
Climate change poses a huge challenge for communities as more frequent extreme weather events require us to rethink how we live and where. Local authorities are at the forefront of efforts to respond, with responsibilities for environmental planning and regulation, as well as civil defence. Many councils have plans to reduce emissions in their area and are working to help their communities adapt to a warming world.

Many councils have plans to reduce emissions in their area and are working to help their communities adapt to a warming world.
Adhere to climate change response policies and goals as set out in the 10-year plan and continue to progress infrastructure climate resilience.
Adhere to water-quality and flood protection policies and goals as outlined in the 10-year plan.
Ensure the new Tide/Ngaru bus service expansion is achieved, further enhanced and introduce a new interregional bus service.
Review robustness of climate change plan and ensure communities are protected from increased natural hazards from climate change.
Take responsibility for reducing HRC's own greenhouse gas emissions and lead the community to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions.
Change base of HRC trust investment assets to release capital for a new proactive investment fund for local green loans and top-up grants.
